Yesterday was beautiful and sunny, today is overcast and gloomy. Yesterday I was feeling inspired, today I am not - what a difference the sun makes! I found this poem whilst looking through my little book of inspirational 'stuff'. So often our lives follow the same routine and pattern, and we constantly find ourselves making the same choices, even though we know they are not right for us. Sometimes you just have take a deep breath, and make conscious choice to do something different, and take responsibility for your own destiny, where ever it may take us, and with whom ever it be, and not simply follow the crowd and it's conventional 'wisdom' - after all look what happens to lemmings.......
AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN FIVE SHORT CHAPTERS
by Portia Nelson
by Portia Nelson
I
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost ... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes me forever to find a way out.
II
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
but, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place
but, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.
III
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in ... it's a habit.
my eyes are open
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.
IV
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
V
I walk down another street.
